We then visited the D-Day National Memorial commemorating another significant event that contributed to ending another great war. Bedford was selected as the site of this memorial as this small town lost 20 of its young men in the first 20 minutes of the battle. Another ten would die before the end of August.
One day while Don played golf, I visited Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. Beautiful home and beautiful gardens. Some of the plants were from seeds collected by Lewis and Clarke on their exploration of the Louisiana Purchase.
And, of course, we spent a day exploring Shenandoah National Park and driving Skyline Drive.
