Ohio - Columbus

Now we are in Columbus to visit the Ohio Statehouse, our 44th state capitol.  The Statehouse was completed in 1861 and is a beautiful example of Greek Revival architecture.  Restoration efforts begun in 1989 and completed in 1996 restored the building to its original elegance and beauty.    (www.ohiostatehouse.org)

We visited the Jack Nicklaus museum and enjoyed displays of his numerous golf championships, humanitarian awards, and personal history.  The video clips and short movies were excellent.

While in Columbus, we visited the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park in Chillicothe, Ohio, about an hour south.  From about 200 BC to 500 AD, the Ohio River Valley was a focal point of the prehistoric Hope Culture.  What little is known of this culture was gleaned from the great geometric earthworks and burial mounds created by these ancient tribes.
